| Patrick Loughrey (1883-1951) [m. Cassie Sheridan], Mandy's eldest son Patrick, having served his time in Belfast in the drapery trade added this feature to the business. The grocery business was expanded by home deliveries with horse and van, and later lorry, and oft times the weeks groceries and the ten stone bag of flour ( as well as the odd half pint of whiskey and ounce of snuff carried under the seat ) would be paid for with the farm eggs under the barter system. Patrick also took out an Auctioneer's (Estate Agency) licence and through the passage of time, while other aspects of the business outlived their time, the estate agency thrived. | ![]() |
| Tommy Loughrey (1907-1992) [m. Josephine Gallagher] took over the business on his father's passing and the "Fair Day" on the sixth of each month featured his open air auctions which provided much contemporary enjoyment and childhood memories. The annual land lettings were vital cogs in the commerce of the area for both leaser and lessee. Tommy also added a Filling Station, Newsagency and Gas Agency to the business and had the first Singing Lounge in the area.. The advent of the supermarket and the need for specialisation resulted in the demise of many rural shops but Loughrey's Bar continued to thrive until Tommy's retirement in 1985. | ![]() |
